Male Patient:
Assist the patient to bend the legs at the knees and spread legs, if possible. Otherwise with patient’s knees straight, help patient to extend and spread legs as much as possible.
Gently lift the penis and retract the foreskin and clean the area undeath the foreskin, if the patient is uncircumcised.
Using a circular motion gently clean the penis; cleaning from the tip downward towards the scrotum. Repeat as needed.
Clean the scrotal sac, groin and the perineum and the anal area.
Use new wet wipes/ cotton for each stroke.
Female Patient:
Assist the patient to bend the legs at the knees and spread legs, if possible. Otherwise with patient’s knees straight, help patient to extend and spread legs as much as possible.
Gently clean around the perineal area, including the inner thighs and outside the labia.
With one hand, separate the outer labia (Labia majora). With the other hand, wipe down the centre of the inner labia (Labia minora). Only wipe in a front to back motion.
Wipe from front to back and clean both sides of the vulva.
Clean the anal area in a direction away from the vagina.
Use new wet wipes / cotton for each stroke.
When you’re finished and the entire perineal area is clean, make sure to thoroughly dry each area with clean dry towel as excess moisture can lead to fungal/bacterial infections.
